1. The case study apartment (CSA)

*Seek to promote density over sprawl, defining the current housing crisis to be the single family house itself

*There are "The Friad apartment" and "The Triad apartment". The only one was built.

*The Triad apartment is based on a kind of rigid grid

*The design

*Acknowledges the grid and the need for standardization, but cleaves to the pre-existing water infrastructure : a canal system

*The units are scalable and smaller in size than the current US dwelling unit, but larger outdoor and communal spaces than the average US apartment.

*The units are designed for affordability, weighting materials and construction against cost and the environment.

*The units lead to the canal system that run through the city. They are acting as a large-scale water collector.

*The project is located along the canal Phoenix

*Repurpose the canal system

1.Old purpose : The project cut across the city grid to provide drinking water to inhabitants. Canals run diagonally or parallel to the street, crossing intersections and cutting throught neighborhood. The countless conditions obstruct predestrian and bicycle travel, but it also offers opportunity for new path and connection to the city.

2.New purpose : The path along the canal functions as a vehicle-free shortcut through the city.

2.Cactus Flower Housing

*The project includes five cactus housing towers : One is low rise snake housing, and a series of support programs including markets, stores, and resterants

*The main street level fronts the canal and is undestood to be a vibrant open commercial an institutional layer.

*A platform above is contained of the social programs of the building and a living machine that filters waste water from the building into usable water that can be fled back into the city's system and reused within the building.

*The roof level is designed as a communal space for the building and collects water that is piped to a cistern below

*The cistern would collect enough water to irrigate the plantings

*Composed of several unit types that are all based on the structure and infrastructure of a cactus

*Water and infrastructure towards the middle with dryer program along the perimetre and edges

*Folded skin for providing shaded from the sun and outdoor breezeways

*Cross ventilation for natural cooling

*Below grounds are parking lots

*The units are supported steel tree-shape columns

*The units layout are based on simple grid

*Three basics unit types : 850 saf, 1000 saf, 1800 saf

*The units can combine : linear, full flower, half flower
